Chapter 329

The air in the room remained heavy with the lingering intensity of the night, a quiet stillness finally settling over the space. Exhaustion eventually took its toll, and Belinda drifted into a deep, dreamless sleep.

Sometime later, Lucas stirred. He moved with uncharacteristic gentleness as he tended to her, his usually stern expression softening in the dim light. Looking at her, he felt a strange, protective surge of emotion he hadn't expected. After ensuring she was comfortable, he settled her back into bed.

By now, the haze of the alcohol had completely cleared from his mind. He was fully aware of the shift that had occurred between them. A part of him was surprised by how easily he had let his guard down, losing the cold control he usually prized so highly. However, the physical and emotional exhaustion of the night was too great to dwell on it for long. He lay down beside her, and before he could process his swirling thoughts, sleep claimed him as well.

The next morning, Belinda awoke before her alarm could sound.

The first thing she felt was a dull ache radiating through her body, a physical reminder of the previous night’s events. As her eyes fluttered open, the first sight that met her was Lucas’s sleeping face just inches from hers.

Belinda froze, her breath catching in her throat. This was entirely outside the realm of what she had ever imagined. Seeing Lucas lying there, relaxed and vulnerable in sleep, sent a jolt of shock through her.

Memories began to flood back in waves—fragmented images of the night before. The realization hit her with the force of a tidal wave. She and Lucas had crossed a line they had both spent so long maintaining.

Even more mortifying was the memory of her own actions. As the hazy recollections of her boldness under the influence of alcohol became clearer, she felt a deep flush creep up her neck. Had she really been the one to reach out first? Had she truly let her inhibitions fall away so completely?

She bit her lip, staring at Lucas as he remained fast asleep, undisturbed by her internal turmoil. The reality of the situation was daunting. Everything had changed in a single night.

Knowing she couldn't face him the moment he woke up, Belinda carefully and quietly slipped out from under the covers, making her way out of the room before the silence could be broken.
