Chapter 1956

Belinda clung to him in a quiet embrace.

Then, as if a sudden thought had struck her, she said, “I met with Sarai at noon today.”

Her face grew serious. “Lucas, I want to… give Sarai another chance. I told her I would forgive and forget, and that she could remain in Owathe and visit Kenia whenever she wished. As long as she makes no further moves against us, I won’t act against her.”

Lucas caught her meaning at once. “You are doing this for Kenia, right?”

Only for Kenia would Belinda ever choose to yield.

Belinda gave a quiet nod. “I don’t want to bring Kenia any more sorrow.”

“You’re doing the right thing,” Lucas said.

He hesitated, then said calmly, “Sarai hasn’t done anything suspicious lately, and no one has reached out to her. Still, I suspect she keeps another phone. Whether she’s been using it to contact others, I don’t know. To be safe, we can’t drop our guard. We need to keep watching her.”

Belinda replied, “I understand.” A soft sigh slipped from her lips. “I just hope… Sarai won’t disappoint me.”

Lucas’ hand slid gently through her hair, his voice low and steady. “You’ve done your part. What happens next is up to her.”

Belinda said nothing more.

Two days slipped by in a blink.

It was Saturday, and with no work for either Belinda or Lucas, they lingered in bed, not rising until after ten in the morning. Once they had washed up and dressed, they went downstairs to share a late breakfast.

After the meal, they planned to take a stroll around the residential block. But before they could leave the house, the sudden chime of the doorbell arrived.

Margie went to answer the door.

She was briefly caught off guard by the two visitors outside, but she quickly invited them in with respect.

When Belinda saw Carola and Elwood step inside her home, she immediately guessed that the results of the paternity test had arrived.

Elwood strode quickly to her, his face alight with joy. “Belinda, my daughter… You are indeed my daughter!”

At his words, a powerful wave of relief surged through Belinda. At last, it was certain—she really was Carola and Elwood’s biological child.

Elwood pulled out the paternity test report and handed it to Belinda.

Belinda took it quickly, flipping straight to the last page to see the result.

The instant her eyes landed on it, a breath of relief slipped from her lips.

Lucas spoke at that moment. “Let’s sit down and talk.”

With that suggestion, everyone moved to the sofa and took their seats.

Giving them privacy, Margie slipped quietly back to her room.

“Belinda,” Elwood called, his voice tinged with joy, though words seemed to fail him.
