Chapter 1818
Kylee sighed.
“He was torn—happy that I found my real father, but heartbroken at the thought of losing me.”
Zaria picked up on the subtle hints in Kylee’s words, her eyes narrowing slightly.
“So, your father has always known you aren’t his biological child?”
“Yes,” Kylee confirmed, her lips tightening briefly.
“It wasn’t until I reconnected with Dad that my father told me the truth. Apparently, his marriage to my mother was arranged by their families, and she was already pregnant when they wed.”
Zaria fell quiet, her mind racing with two theories.
First, Kylee’s father might be telling the truth—an innocent man caught in an arranged marriage to Carola, who was already pregnant with a child that was not Elwood’s. Perhaps Carola schemed to let Elwood take her illegitimate child.
Second, Kylee, or her father Baker, could be lying. Maybe Kylee was Baker’s biological daughter, and he falsified the paternity test to secure a better future for her.
If that was the case, the matter had a critical flaw—Carola was certain to uncover it.
So, Tamara’s assumptions must be right. No matter who had manipulated the paternity test, Carola was undoubtedly in the know.
Zaria gave a subtle nod, murmuring, “I see.” She chose to hold her tongue after that, keeping her thoughts to herself.
Deep down, she was thrilled at the prospect of the test results coming to light this time, eager to witness Kylee’s reaction when the truth surfaced.
After the meal, Zaria left for home, no longer wanting to maintain a pretense around Kylee.
At the Grand Plains General Hospital, Belinda was sitting at her computer when a nurse approached her.
“Dr. Wright, you have a visitor waiting outside. It’s… Kylee.” Belinda’s gaze shifted briefly at the mention of the name. After a brief pause, she acknowledged the nurse with a nod.
“Got it, thanks,” she said.

“You’re welcome,” the nurse said before moving on to her tasks. Belinda pressed her lips together for a moment, rose from her seat, and stepped out of her office.
Spotting Kylee at the doorway, she kept her composure and asked coolly, “What do you want?”
Kylee met her gaze with an air of arrogance.
“Belinda, can we find a quiet spot to talk?”
With a slight smirk, Belinda agreed, “Sure.”
She was curious to hear what Kylee had to say.
They went to the hospital’s garden, a secluded area perfect for private conversation.
Belinda crossed her arms, casting a glance at Kylee.
“Well? What do you want to say to me?”
Kylee began, “Belinda, I’m not sure how much you know about my background.”
She was aware Elwood had spoken to Belinda but wasn’t certain how much he had revealed to her.
