Chapter 1844

Belinda murmured, “I really might not be Holley and Baker’s daughter.”

Her voice was quiet, but each word carried the weight of a world turned upside down.

“Then who are my real parents?”

Lucas studied the troubled shadows dancing across Belinda’s features, his eyes reflecting a careful blend of worry and contemplation.

In truth, he had already begun piecing together the puzzle of Belinda’s biological parents, connecting fragments that painted a startling picture.

However, without solid proof to anchor his growing suspicions, he chose not to trouble her with the idea.

The thought of watching her endure fresh disappointment if his theory was wrong made his chest tighten with protective instinct.

So, when Belinda’s words reached his ears, Lucas drew her close, his arm settling around her shoulder.

“Don’t let this consume you,” he said, his voice gentle.

“I’ll ensure someone continues digging deeper into this mystery. Your real parents must have walked those same hospital corridors at that exact moment, and their child would have drawn their first breath on the very same day you entered this world. This narrows our investigation.”

Belinda’s head moved in slow agreement, her thoughts beginning to crystallize.

“You are right. Baker and Holley could only have pulled off their deception by being in the same hospital as my real parents.”

Belinda had thought of this herself, but her focus had been so consumed by the revelation that she wasn’t Baker and Holley’s daughter that she had overlooked some obvious facts.

She had failed to recognize that she knew someone sharing her exact birth circumstances.

Lucas steered their conversation toward practical matters.

“I’ve already set wheels in motion to collect blood samples from both Holley and Baker. Once their samples reach our hands, we’ll conduct a fresh paternity test alongside yours.”

His expression darkened like storm clouds gathering.

“This time, multiple testing centers will handle the analysis. As for those two previous centers that processed your tests before… there must be something off about them. I’ve already sent people to investigate.”

“Okay.” Belinda nodded once more, choosing not to say anything else.

The revelation had struck her like a physical blow, leaving her reeling in its aftermath.

Yet as her mind settled into calmer waters, the scattered pieces of her life suddenly formed a coherent picture.

Everything made perfect sense now—Holley and Baker’s cruelty toward her stemmed from one simple fact: she wasn’t their flesh and blood.

What reason did they have to show kindness to a child who belonged to strangers?

The truth blazed before her with unmistakable clarity. Earlier, Baker must have somehow discovered Lucas’ plan to secure blood samples for paternity testing—a discovery that pushed him to tamper with the results.

That was why she had always believed they were her biological parents.
