Chapter 1817
In a cozy private dining room at a restaurant, Zaria had invited Kylee to share a meal.
Zaria’s face lit up with astonishment as she said, “Kylee, I never would have guessed you’re actually my father’s daughter. It’s almost too wild to believe.”
Kylee said, “The paternity test results haven’t come back yet.”
Zaria waved off her words.
“That’s just a formality. Dad already had a test done before. Grandma’s just being extra careful with another one, but the outcome will be the same.”
As she spoke, she studied Kylee’s face, noting every subtle shift in her expression.
Kylee’s lips pressed together, her eyes darting briefly, betraying a hint of unease.
Zaria’s mouth curved into a faint, knowing smile. Then, as if struck by a sudden thought, she asked, “Kylee, do you already know about my real identity?”
Kylee nodded.
“Yes, Mr… Dad has already told me.”
She had started to say “Mr. Wright” but corrected herself to address Elwood as “Dad.”
When Kylee boldly referred to Elwood as “Dad,” Zaria’s breathing grew heavy, a flicker of irritation crossing her face. Inwardly, she scoffed, “Does Kylee really think she has the right to call him that? How shameless!”
Zaria felt uncomfortable hearing Kylee refer to Elwood as “Dad.” Though she harbored scorn and resentment toward Kylee, she kept her composure, her face betraying none of her emotions. She continued, “Kylee, could you keep my real identity a secret? I would rather people not know that Dad adopted me from an orphanage.”
Kylee gave a quick nod.
“Of course, Zaria. My lips are sealed.” Until she had fully secured her place in the family, Kylee would guard Zaria’s secret.
But after that…
Zaria flashed a warm smile.
“Thanks, Kylee.”
Kylee mirrored the smile.
“We’re sisters. No need to thank me.” At those bold words, Zaria’s breathing grew heavier, her irritation barely concealed.
Kylee had no shame, Zaria thought bitterly.
Now, she was desperate for the new paternity test results to come out.
The idea of playing sister to Kylee was unbearable—she didn’t deserve to be her sister at all.
After a brief pause, Zaria shifted the conversation.
“By the way, Kylee, about you reconnecting with Dad—do your parents know?”
Kylee answered, “My father does, but my mother… she hasn’t been told yet. I’m not sure how to break it to her.”
Zaria’s eyes flickered, catching the sincerity in Kylee’s expression.
It seemed Kylee was being truthful—Carola likely didn’t know about the matter.
Still, Zaria wasn’t entirely convinced; Kylee could be lying. After a moment’s thought, Zaria pressed further.
“What did your father say when he learned about it?”
