Chapter 1855

Holley was practically shaking.

“You have to do something, Baker! If the truth about Kylee gets out, we’re done for!”

“You think I don’t want to fix this? But what the hell am I supposed to do? Tell me, Holley, what exactly do you want from me?” Baker barked, clearly at his breaking point. His chest rose and fell with frustration.

“If I’d known things would spiral like this, I never would’ve gone along with it,” Holley muttered bitterly.

Right then, it wasn’t just Holley drowning in regret; Kylee felt it in her bones as well.

If she hadn’t worked so hard to squeeze her way into the Wright family, none of this mess would’ve happened.

Carola might have lived the rest of her life never suspecting a thing. But now?

One false move, and the whole plan had collapsed.

“Enough! What’s the use of whining about it now?” Baker snapped at Holley.

Then he fell silent, sinking into deep thought. When he finally spoke again, his voice carried a grim finality.

“It’s over. The truth about Kylee’s parentage is going to come out eventually. All we can do now is shield her. The baby switch—that was on us. Kylee had no idea about it. Let’s say she honestly thinks she’s Carola’s real daughter. That makes her innocent. You get what I’m saying, right, Holley?”

Holley understood him instantly.

“Yeah, I get it.”

Still, Kylee was worried.

“Dad, even if you say that, do you really think Carola and her family are going to buy it?”

Baker’s face turned grim.

“Whether they believe it or not doesn’t matter anymore. This is the only solution we’ve got left. Kylee, listen to me—you don’t know anything. You’ve never heard a word from us. And you have always believed that you are Carola’s daughter.”

“Yes, I understand,” Kylee said with a nod.

They all knew this was their only option.

Meanwhile, over at The Harlequin Eats, Lucas and Belinda had invited Nalani and Barbara out for a meal.

This time, it was Lucas who had suggested they all get together for a meal.

The moment Barbara stepped into a private dining room and spotted Belinda, she wasted no time hurrying over to her. She wrapped Belinda in a warm hug, her tone light and teasing.

“Belinda, I’ve missed you so much! But you never called me, and whenever I tried to meet up, you were always too busy.”

Belinda felt a faint wave of awkwardness at her words. She gave Barbara’s back a gentle pat and explained, “Uh, I really was swamped before, but now that things have finally settled down, I thought I’d quickly arrange this hangout with you and Nalani.”

Nalani stood a little off to the side, an amused smile tugging at her lips as she watched the exchange.

Lucas strode over and, without a hint of restraint, pulled Barbara away from Belinda.
