Chapter 1915

Chapter1915

As Belinda watched, her eyes widened in astonishment. Could it really be? Could this be the same stray kitten she had once seen outside the Happer family estate?

Belinda lifted her gaze to Mitchell.

“This is the very stray cat from outside the estate back then,” Mitchell explained softly. “We never drove it away.”

He hesitated, then added, “I had a friend who’d been longing for a cat. I told him about it, and he agreed to adopt it. He came that same day and took the kitten home.”

A flicker of awkwardness tightened Mitchell’s features as he paused. “I… I told you it had been driven away only because I wanted to teach you a lesson back then,” he confessed.

Belinda didn’t answer. Her eyes stayed fixed on the video, unblinking. Her feelings were tangled and heavy.

When she had once believed the kitten had been driven away, the thought had shattered her.

It had been so tiny, so helpless—if it had truly been cast out to fend for itself, how could it have possibly survived?

Back then, she had been crushed with guilt, convinced that its situation was all her fault.

Yet, she hadn’t expected that she could see the little creature again after all these years…

It had been adopted, cherished, and had grown into a happy, well-fed pet.

Its round, chubby face was adorable. Clearly, whoever cared for it had treated it with love.

A deep, profound relief washed over Belinda.

Knowing that the kitten had survived, that it was thriving, soothed the wound she had carried all these years.

She turned to Mitchell, her voice quiet but sincere. “Thank you… for giving it a good life. What’s its name?”

“Kitzy,” Mitchell replied at once. “The owner dotes on it.”

“Kitzy…” Belinda echoed softly, a faint smile tugging at her lips. “That’s a lovely name.”

“Belinda, I’m so sorry for everything that happened back then.” Lyle spoke up, his voice weighed down with remorse.

Though he and Mitchell had already apologized countless times, they both knew no apology could ever undo the harm they had caused her.

“Actually… if I were in your position, I couldn’t say you were entirely wrong. On one side, you had your cousin and her maid. On the other side was me, an outsider to your family… It was only natural that you chose to believe Kylee.” Belinda’s tone was steady, almost detached.

Her composure, her almost indifferent serenity, only deepened the guilt in Lyle’s and Mitchell’s chests.

Lyle lowered his head slightly, his voice strained. “Even so, we never should have dismissed you without hearing you out, nor should we have treated you in such a cruel way. For that, we are truly sorry.”

Mitchell spoke, his tone heavy. “We know the scars we left on you can’t be erased with a few simple apologies. We don’t expect you to forgive us so easily. We only want to let you know what we truly feel right now.”
