Belinda, sensing Nalani’s genuine confusion, hesitated before responding. “Wait… Nalani, you don’t know, do you?”
Nalani’s bewilderment deepened. “Know what? Belinda, what do you mean?”
Belinda spoke plainly. “Kylee is Elwood’s biological daughter.”
“What?” Nalani’s eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at Belinda. “Who told you that? Was it Elwood?”
Belinda nodded. “Yes, Elwood told me that himself. He said Kylee is his and Carola’s daughter.”
With a loud thud, Nalani slammed her hand on the table and shot to her feet.
“That’s utterly absurd! Kylee, the daughter of Elwood and Carola? That can’t be true.”
Her voice dripped with sarcasm and contempt.
Belinda blinked, unsure why Nalani responded so strongly. Nalani sat back down, her gaze fixed on Belinda, and continued, “So, Belinda, you’re saying Elwood approached you about this, claiming that because of your ties to Kylee, you two shouldn’t meet up anymore?”
“Yes,” Belinda confirmed with a nod.
Nalani took a deep breath, her tone grave as she said to Belinda, “Listen, Belinda, no matter who Elwood’s daughter is, it won’t change the bond between you, me, and Barbara. Whatever Elwood said reflects only his perspective, not mine or Barbara’s. Do you get what I mean?”
Belinda nodded, her heart touched by Nalani’s words.
Belinda tilted her head in acknowledgment toward Nalani, murmuring, “I get it now.”
Nalani shot Belinda a look tinged with frustration and resignation. “You’re really something, you know? You went ahead and made a decision for me without even asking my opinion!”
Feeling a bit guilty, Belinda pressed her lips together. “I made a mistake this time. I’m truly sorry.”

Belinda nodded. “I promise it won’t happen again.”
