Chapter 1875
“Is there a problem?”
Holley bristled instantly.
“Of course there’s a problem! Belinda, weren’t you the one who exiled Sarai from Owathe and forbade her from ever coming back? Why would you suddenly allow her to return? Belinda, don’t tell me you’re going soft on her! Don’t let a few honeyed words sway your judgment. That woman is dangerous! Have you forgotten what she tried to do to Mr. Clark? She’s always had her eyes on your man!”
She spoke with urgency, looking like she was only saying this for Belinda’s own good.
Belinda gave only a faint, dismissive scoff, choosing not to say anything.
“Sarai saved me. That’s why Belinda agreed to let her remain in Owathe.” At this moment, Kenia spoke up.
The moment those words left Kenia’s lips, Holley stiffened, unease flashing across her face. She blurted out anxiously, “Sarai saved you? W-what do you mean? What exactly happened?”
Kenia recounted the entire incident to Holley without concealing a thing.
But as soon as Holley heard her mother’s explanation, fury erupted in her eyes.
“Mom! You’ve been tricked—without a doubt! I’m certain that the so-called drug addict who tried to rob you was planted there by Sarai! She only pulled this stunt so she could stay in Owathe and worm her way closer to you. Believe me, Mom, she definitely has an agenda. She must be scheming something. Don’t let yourself be blinded by the surface of things.”
“That’s impossible!” Kenia refused to believe her.
Holley pressed on, her voice urgent and insistent.
“Mom, I’m telling the truth! Think about it. How could it possibly be such a coincidence that a robber shows up right when Sarai happens to be nearby—and you of all people were the one attacked? Coincidences like that don’t happen! This was obviously premeditated. Sarai probably wanted to use it as an excuse to draw closer to you. Back then, didn’t she already use a similar trick just to make Belinda forgive her?”
Holley knew such underhanded tactics all too well.
A woman like Sarai could never be genuinely selfless and save people like that.
g?lnσνs?c?m is a world of wonder
Even if Holley couldn’t yet pin down Sarai’s real intentions, she was certain of one thing: she had to stop her before her mother got hurt again.
With that thought burning in her mind, she turned toward Belinda.
“Belinda, I can’t believe you and Mr. Clark aren’t the least bit suspicious about this whole matter. You must see it, too—things can’t possibly be as simple as they look.”
Belinda said nothing, her silence heavy.
Yet, deep down, she knew Holley was speaking only out of concern for Kenia.
At that moment, Kenia turned her eyes to Belinda, shock flickering faintly in her gaze.
She asked, “Belinda… what about you? Do you and Lucas also suspect that something is amiss about Sarai?”
Since Kenia had asked outright, Belinda chose not to hold back. She pressed her red lips together for a moment before answering softly, “Indeed… Lucas and I do suspect that Sarai has bad intentions in returning this time. But we can’t be entirely certain.”
Kenia’s expression shifted, her voice catching.
