Chapter 1899
Lyle spoke in a grave tone. “That kind of drug comes from Ironland. It first appeared on the black market long ago and is an extremely vicious neurotoxin, insidious beyond measure. When I was working at the Soling Public Security Bureau, my team handled several cases tied to this very substance. Later, the government ordered a sweeping crackdown, and officially, every trace of it was wiped out. I never imagined someone would still be selling it on the black market.”
“Belinda, are you alright?” Carola asked, her voice heavy with concern.
“I’m fine,” Belinda replied. “Since we discovered that Holley had secretly bought the drug from the black market, we prepared ourselves in advance. That’s why she failed to drug me.”
Still, the thought of what such a drug could do sent a chill of dread coursing through Carola.
Belinda gently pressed her red lips together, then reassured her, “Don’t worry. I’m perfectly okay. That spiked juice ended up in Holley’s own stomach.”
“She got exactly what she deserved!” Saniya exclaimed, unable to contain her anger.
“That woman is absolutely monstrous!” Mose said. “Even if Belinda wasn’t her biological daughter, they lived together for more than twenty years. Belinda has been calling her ‘Mom’ all that time. How could she be so heartless as to try to poison Belinda with something so dangerous? She was trying to destroy her completely!”
Everyone seethed with outrage over Holley’s cruelty.
“Where is Holley now?” Carola demanded, her chest heaving as her face darkened with fury.
“I’ve already handed her over to the police,” Belinda said.
Galen gave a firm nod. “That was the right decision. With the law handling her, she can rot in prison for the rest of her life.”
Lyle said coldly, “And we can make sure she suffers in prison.”
M0re detailz at glovels.
Yet even knowing Holley’s fate, Carola was still seething. Her rage burned too fiercely to be quenched.
Turning to Belinda, she said, “Belinda, why don’t you come live with me? Would you like that?”
Lucas suddenly felt nervous.
If Belinda chose to move in with Carola, he would no longer be able to live with her. After all, he was only her boyfriend; it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to live with her family. It would mean the end of them sharing a home.
But then again, Belinda had finally found her real mother. Deep down, she must long to be close to her.
With all these thoughts swirling in his mind, Lucas held his tongue, watching Belinda quietly as he waited for her answer. He would respect whatever decision she made.
The rest of the Happer family also turned their eyes toward Belinda, their gazes filled with anticipation and a hint of nervousness.
Belinda looked at Carola, then at the others, and finally let her gaze linger on Lucas.
She bit her lip, then smiled at Carola. “I’m actually happy living here.”
Carola’s expression fell in disappointment. “Belinda—”
Before she could finish speaking, Belinda cut her off.
house with me, she would never agree. Besides…”
