Chapter 1846

Years ago, Carola had suddenly come home, revealing her pregnancy but refusing to name the father, no matter how much they pressed.

She had been a shadow of herself, as though her spirit had shattered.

Galen, along with Carola’s brothers and sisters-in-law, had been consumed with worry, anger, and sorrow.

Galen had vowed to track down the man responsible, but Carola had begged him to drop it, insisting the matter was closed and the child was hers alone.

Out of respect for her wishes, the Happer family members hadn’t dug into her past.

Now, hearing Elwood’s name from Carola’s own lips, they realized the man who had wronged her was someone they knew.

Mose, in particular, was livid. He had once held Elwood in high regard, even considered him a friend, sharing rounds of golf and casual coffee chats.

To learn that Elwood was the one who had wronged his sister was hard for him to accept.

His jaw tightened as he muttered, “Elwood, that despicable man! All these years I’ve known him, and he has never shown an ounce of regret, like he has never done anything wrong!”

Carola’s lips twitched into a faint, bitter smile.

“That’s because… not long after we parted ways, Elwood was in a car accident. It caused partial amnesia, wiping out some of his memories, including everything about me.”

“What? That’s what happened?” Mose’s scowl softened slightly as he processed the revelation.

Saniya Happer, Mose’s wife, spoke up.

“Then why did you two break up in the first place?”

“That’s exactly what I need to say today,” Carola said, her voice trembling slightly.

“I was certain the child I carried was Elwood’s. But yesterday, the paternity test results came back for Elwood and Kylee, and they showed no biological connection whatsoever.”

“How could that be?”

Upon hearing Carola’s words, everyone in the Happer family was once again shocked.

They had always trusted Carola. If she claimed the child belonged to Elwood, then it had to be true; there was never any question in their minds.

But then again… the paternity test said otherwise.

How could both be true?

Where had things gone wrong?

Galen turned toward Carola, his tone heavy with expectation, his brow taut with concern.

“Carola, you really need to explain the situation to us.”

Carola began explaining everything, piece by piece, laying bare the truth she had carried alone for too long.

By the time she finished, Galen exchanged a glance with Lyle, the silence between them heavy.

Then Lyle broke it.
