Chapter 1843
“It was about two weeks before Holley’s due date. One morning, she told me she had something urgent to take care of and needed to step out. I tried to stop her. I told her I wasn’t comfortable letting her go anywhere alone in that condition. But she insisted. Said it would not take long. Then, she disappeared. Slipped out behind my back.”
Her brows knitted together.
“A week passed. Then, I got a call. She asked me to come to Owathe. Just like that—she told me she had already given birth.”
Kenia’s eyes dimmed as the memory settled into her face.
“When I got there, it had been three days since you were born. You were already out of the incubator by then.”
So, that was what had happened.
A look of realization appeared on Belinda’s face.
If Holley and Baker had switched babies, Kenia never would have known.
By the time she arrived, it was too late. Holley had already let Belinda be her baby.
What a cunning move.
Kenia’s expression hardened. She straightened, her voice low and urgent.
“Belinda.” Her eyes locked onto hers.
“Tell me the truth. Why are you asking me all this? Are you suspecting something?”
Belinda dropped her gaze. Her fingers fidgeted with the edge of her sleeve.
She did not want to lie, not to her grandmother.
After a moment of hesitation, she met Kenia’s eyes and spoke with quiet resolve.
“Grandma, there are still things I need to confirm. Once I’m sure, I promise I’ll tell you everything. I won’t keep anything from you. Okay?”
Kenia studied her for a long moment.
Then, with a reluctant nod, she said, “Alright.”
Belinda gave her a small, grateful smile and rose from her seat.
Back in her room, the weight of the conversation hit her like a wave. Her face was pale and drawn, her steps slow.

Lucas, already waiting, caught her expression the moment she walked in.
She sat down beside him with a heavy sigh, not wasting time.
“My grandma said I never had a birthmark,” she said, her tone flat.
“And she only saw me three days after Holley gave birth. She was not there when I was born.”
Lucas leaned forward, jaw tight.
“So Holley gave birth without anyone else from the family around. That means…”
He paused for a moment.
“It would have been the perfect opportunity for her and Baker to pull something off.”
“Exactly,” Belinda muttered, her voice cold with anger.
Lucas nodded slowly. His eyes darkened with thought.
“Holley chose a C-section to switch babies. That way, they could ensure the timing matched—whether the other baby was born the same day, a day earlier, or later. Either way, it gave them control. And the reason Holley placed the baby in an incubator first was to swap the two babies later!”
