Chapter 1949
Still, Faye’s expression seemed genuine.
Georgie’s voice dropped into a grave tone. “Faye, are you really telling me the truth?”
In her heart, she refused to accept the possibility that her daughter could harbor such feelings for her uncle.
Faye nodded quickly, her head bobbing with determination. “Of course, it’s the truth!”
She paused, pressing her lips together before continuing, “This ordeal has taught me a harsh lesson. I realize now that my dependence on Uncle Lucas was not right. But don’t worry, Mom. From now on, I’ll be more careful. I’ll never allow something like this to happen again. I’ll keep a proper distance from Uncle Lucas and Belinda and treat them only as family.”
At those words, Georgie let out a long, heavy sigh of relief.
Her features softened. “It’s good that you’ve recognized your mistakes and are willing to correct them. I believe you’ll do better in the future. Don’t worry—Lucas won’t do anything to you again. From now on, just focus on your work, alright?”
Faye blinked. Did this mean she was allowed to stay in Owathe and continue to work in the Triumph Consortium?
A deep, shuddering breath escaped her lips as relief flooded her body.
She silently told herself that she had finally overcome this obstacle. Reaching this point was no small feat.
Simultaneously, she carved stern warnings into her consciousness about maintaining absolute vigilance in every word she spoke and every gesture she made from now on. No one could ever discover the feelings she harbored for Lucas.
Thinking about this, Faye smiled at Georgie and said, “Of course. Don’t worry, Mom.”
Georgie’s palm found the crown of Faye’s head, stroking with maternal tenderness before she shifted the topic. “You need to rest now. You’ve had a rough day.”
“Okay.” Faye nodded, settling back against her pillows and allowing her eyelids to flutter closed.

In that moment of supposed tranquility, she forged an unbreakable vow that she would make Belinda pay.
After all, without Belinda, Lucas would never have subjected her to such cruel treatment. She would never let this matter go!
The debt would compound with interest until the day arrived for settlement.
Someday, she would take her revenge on Belinda. Determination settled in Faye’s heart.
The next day.
Having returned home late the night before, Belinda didn’t wake up until after ten.
Breakfast and morning preparations consumed her time until she prepared to retreat to her room, only to have her phone’s insistent ringing shatter the peaceful silence.
Belinda took her phone and saw the caller ID, her brow creasing slightly.
After allowing hesitation to stretch between heartbeats, she pressed the answer button. “Hello.”
“Belinda, could you spare some precious time from your schedule now? Would it be possible for us to meet?” A woman’s voice echoed from the other end.
It was Sarai.
