Chapter 1656
Belinda found herself deeply respecting Carola for seeing things clearly. Still, something didn’t add up. If Baker had hurt her so deeply, why had Carola stayed in the marriage? Why hadn’t she just divorced him?
Belinda couldn’t shake the feeling that there had to be more to the story. Then, a thought struck her.
She looked at Carola and said gently, “Mrs. Wright, I think… there must’ve been someone you loved very much before. But for some reason, the two of you didn’t end up together. After that, you changed. So when you chose Baker, it wasn’t really about him. And after he betrayed you, you didn’t get a divorce because… if it’s not your true love, it doesn’t really…”
“…matter who you are with.”
Carola stared at her, eyes wide in surprise, momentarily at a loss for words. In that instant, she realized Belinda had managed to analyze her thoughts accurately.
With a soft, resigned smile, Carola looked at her and said, “Well, how did I never notice how nosy you are?”
Belinda laughed lightly. “Just a touch of curiosity—I couldn’t help myself.”
Sensing that Carola didn’t want to dwell any longer on the subject, Belinda didn’t push. Instead, the two shifted to lighter topics, letting the conversation flow smoothly.
They had a pleasant chat.
Just then, Carola’s phone rang.
Carola pulled out her phone and noticed the incoming call displayed Kylee’s name. Her finger swept across the screen to answer. “Hello.”
“Mom! What happened? Are you having a fever?” Kylee’s voice carried through the speaker, thick with worry.
“Please don’t worry. I’m receiving proper treatment at the hospital, and I already feel so much better,” Carola responded, her voice gentle and reassuring.

“Stay right where you are. I’ll be right there.” Kylee didn’t wait for additional details before ending the call abruptly.
She raced toward the Grand Plains General Hospital with desperate urgency. When she finally reached the hospital, Carola was seated, still receiving her IV treatment.
“Mom! How are you feeling right now? Is there still any discomfort bothering you?” Kylee rushed forward, her entire face radiating concern as she peppered Carola with questions.
Witnessing Kylee’s arrival, Belinda gracefully rose from her chair, offering her seat to her.
Carola shook her head with a subtle movement and said, “I feel significantly better now.”
She then shifted her attention to Belinda, her smile warm with gratitude. “Belinda helped me a lot today.”
