Chapter 1770

“Don’t cry,” Holley said, her heart breaking as she slid closer to Kylee, gently wiping her tears with a tissue while muttering curses about Belinda under her breath. “Belinda is absolutely vile!”

Baker’s anger matched hers.

Their family had ended up like this all because of Belinda. That woman was nothing but trouble. His daughter had contracted HIV. His beloved was rapidly gaining weight, her face swollen. And his company teetered on the edge of collapse. The mere thought of all this filled him with despair. And Belinda was to blame for all of it. Every time he thought about this, he wished he could kill Belinda.

The living room’s atmosphere grew heavy, thick with resentment.

In his room, Harold sat on the couch, his face etched with concern. Discover more novels at find?novel.net

“Harold, what’s wrong? You look so troubled. Did something happen?” Norma said, settling beside him.

Harold turned to her, his voice low. “Today, Lucas asked me if Faye is really Georgie’s biological daughter.

Norma froze, her eyes widening in surprise. “Why would Lucas ask that out of the blue? Did he hear something, or…” She trailed off, unsure how to continue.

“I’m not sure,” Harold admitted, his expression still somber. “But something’s definitely off between Lucas and Faye. The last few times I’ve seen them, his attitude toward her has been… odd.”

“So, how did you answer him?” Norma pressed.

“I told him Faye is Georgie’s biological daughter, of course,” Harold said with a heavy sigh. “I promised Georgie I’d never reveal Faye’s true parentage to anyone, so I had to lie to Lucas.”

“You did the right thing,” Norma said, her brow creasing with worry. “That secret will always weigh on Georgie’s heart.”

Harold’s gaze drifted. “I just can’t piece it together. What could have happened? Why do Lucas and Belinda seem to have a problem with Faye now?”

When Norma heard that, her eyes flickered slightly. She pressed her lips together gently before speaking. “I have a theory about that, but I’m not sure if it’s right.”

Harold turned toward her, his gaze sharpening with curiosity. “What is it?” he asked, waiting.

Norma inhaled slowly, choosing her words with care. “I think… Faye might have feelings for Lucas.”

The moment the words left her lips, Harold’s expression shifted. Shock rippled across his face like a stone dropped in still water. “That’s impossible!” he shot back, the denial immediate and fierce.

His brows drew together as he looked at her. “Yes, Faye leans on Lucas a lot. I won’t deny that. But that’s only because they grew up side by side. There’s barely any age gap between them, and Lucas has always looked out for her—he treats her like a little kid. Of course she depends on him. That doesn’t mean there’s anything more to it.”

He paused, as if trying to steady the storm churning in his mind. “She knows he is her uncle,” he added firmly. “There’s no way she could have feelings for him. That’s… unthinkable.”

Even as he spoke, a flicker of discomfort passed through him. He couldn’t stand even the idea of that.
