Chapter 1944

Harold’s words cast a shadow over Georgie’s expression once more.

“That’s absurd! It can’t be true! Even Atticus is clueless about this—how could Faye possibly know?” Georgie exclaimed.

Harold retorted, “And how are you so certain Faye doesn’t know? What if she overheard you discussing her parentage with someone? Or maybe she learned it through some other means? Anything is possible. How can you be absolutely sure Faye doesn’t know about her parentage?”

Georgie went quiet, her lips tightening into a pale, thin line as the truth sank in. A storm of emotions flickered across her face.

Harold studied her briefly before continuing, “I’ve never bought that Faye, seeing Lucas only as her uncle, would go so far as to kill Belinda. It doesn’t add up.”

Georgie was silent for a long moment.

Then, as if a sudden realization hit her, she steadied herself and said, “If that is the case, why was Faye so friendly with Belinda back when she was Lucas’ wife? They were very close at that time.”

“Think it through. How did Lucas treat Belinda during their marriage years ago? Back then, Lucas was convinced Verena was the one he loved. So, wasn’t it Verena whom Faye disliked at that time? And why were Faye and Belinda so close back then, yet now, Faye is hell-bent on harming Belinda? Have you thought about that?” Harold let out a cold scoff before adding, “Doesn’t it strike you now that Faye resents whoever Lucas cares for?”

At this point, Georgie was utterly speechless.

She clearly couldn’t accept this.

She clutched her head, fingers raking through her hair in agitation.

“Have a serious talk with Faye about this! Put an end to her delusions!” Harold’s eyes narrowed as he fixed his gaze on Georgie, his tone heavy with meaning. “I’m guessing you wouldn’t want Atticus to learn about Faye’s true origins, would you?”

Georgie’s face stiffened instantly.

After a brief pause, a steely determination settled over her expression. She drew a deep breath and said firmly, “Okay, I understand.”

Harold gave a curt nod. “Good.”

Mount Tuky.

When Faye stepped out of the car and took in the familiar landscape, her expression shifted, her body tensing. Why had Lucas brought her here? What was he planning to do? A surge of dread washed over her.

Before she could think any further, the two bodyguards firmly guided her forward.

Judging by their path, they were headed toward the woods behind the hills.

The deeper they went, the more Faye’s anxiety spiked. She was being ushered ahead, with Lucas and Belinda trailing behind.

Upon reaching Mount Tuky, Belinda had already pieced together Lucas’ intention.

At the realization, her brow furrowed slightly as she stole a glance at him, a pang of unease stirring in her chest. Could this really be the right thing to do? How would Lucas explain this to his sister and Harold later?

“Lucas—” Belinda began softly.

But Lucas cut her off before she could go on. “Don’t say anything. Just trust me, okay?”
