Chapter 1931
Chapter1931
With firm conviction, Elwood declared, “I feel it deep inside me, Belinda—you are my daughter. From the very first moment we met, I was drawn to you with a closeness I couldn’t explain. Only today, when Carola revealed your origins, did I finally understand. It’s the bond of blood. I know it in my heart—you are my daughter.”
Seeing the firm determination etched across Elwood’s face, Belinda felt something stir in her heart, though she couldn’t quite describe the tangle of emotions that washed over her. In the end, she only gave a faint, quiet smile, choosing silence over words.
“Belinda, do you have time tonight? Would you… join me for dinner at the Wright family’s house?” Elwood said carefully.
Belinda blinked, then answered evenly, “Um… Mr. Wright, I think it’s best if we wait until the paternity test’s results come back before we talk about anything further. Don’t you agree?”
A flicker of disappointment clouded Elwood’s eyes. He realized that he had let his eagerness get the better of him.
With a reluctant nod, he said, “Alright. We’ll do it your way.”
For a brief while, silence hung between them, until Belinda finally broke it. “Mr. Wright, if there’s nothing else, I should return to the office.”
“Okay, I won’t keep you,” Elwood replied softly.
Just as Belinda turned to leave, Elwood’s voice suddenly called, “Belinda.”
Belinda paused. “Yes? What is it?”
“If you have time, would you share a meal with me?” Elwood asked nervously.
And before she could respond, he quickly added, “Not at the Wright family’s residence—just at a restaurant.”
Seeing the hope written so plainly on his face, Belinda sighed inwardly.
She gave a small nod. “Alright.”
Elwood’s face lit up at once, his voice quick and eager. “How about tonight, then?”

After a brief moment of thought, Belinda shook her head gently. “Let’s do tomorrow night instead.”
Elwood’s smile grew brighter. “Perfect, tomorrow night it is. Wherever you’d like to go, we’ll go there.”
After a short pause, he added warmly, “That’s all I wanted to say. Belinda, you can get back to work; I won’t keep you any longer.”
Belinda gave a polite nod. “Okay, goodbye. Take care on your way back.”
Elwood’s grin widened when he heard the concern in her words. He nodded several times in quick succession. “Of course, of course. Don’t worry.”
Belinda turned and left.
Back at her office, she sat down and absently bit her lower lip. In truth, she felt uneasy about growing too close to Elwood. What if the test results revealed there was no blood tie between them at all?
That fear was the reason she hesitated to set foot inside the Wright family’s residence.
She didn’t want to create expectations only to shatter them later.
Drawing in a steady breath, she forced the thoughts aside and turned her attention to work.
In the evening, after finishing dinner and taking a quiet stroll with Kenia, Belinda and Lucas returned to their room. Only then did Belinda finally ask, “Lucas, what’s the matter? You’ve seemed distracted since dinner. Did something happen?”
