Chapter 1910

Chapter1910

“That’s just perfect! Wonderful!” Mitchell snapped, the words dripping with irony, his jaw locking tighter with every syllable.

Gretchen shrank at the sight of their expressions, fear gnawing at her. What if they chose to retaliate against her?

Panicked, she stammered, “P-please, have mercy! I truly know I was wrong. I should never have conspired with Ms. Wright to frame Belinda. But… but I was forced at that time! And the conditions she offered—they were far too tempting. It was my fault for not being strong enough to resist them.”

Lyle’s eyes grew colder, his voice cutting sharp as steel. “Gretchen, don’t think that simply confessing everything absolves you. Kylee might be the mastermind, but you were her accomplice. You are no better than her!”

Gretchen’s face turned ghostly pale at his words. She collapsed into hurried pleas. “Please, forgive me! I swear I know I was wrong.”

Mitchell gave a sharp laugh. “Calm down. We’ve got no intention of laying a hand on you, so stop trembling like that. But… we will be taking things that never should have been yours in the first place. For instance, the house you live in now.”

Gretchen’s eyes went wide, her skin drained of all color. Take her house? Did they really mean that?

Lyle spoke next. “The house—you got it because you helped frame Belinda. It was never meant to belong to you. I’m giving you three days to sell it. Then, donate the money to orphanages in Soling. If you refuse, don’t blame us for taking extreme measures.”

All strength drained from Gretchen’s body, and she collapsed to the floor. Her face was ashen.

She knew they weren’t bluffing. They were more than capable of carrying out their threat.

But selling the house… It was like tearing out her soul. The house was everything to her! Her entire family enjoyed a comfortable life in it.

But now…

Overwhelmed by despair, Gretchen cried out, “Please… I beg you… Have mercy!”

Mitchell gave a sharp laugh, his voice sharp as ice. “Do you honestly think we’re threatening your life? No! All we’re asking is for you to sell the house. How on earth does that threaten your life? Why are you begging us like this?”

“Oh, that’s right!” Lyle suddenly snapped his fingers as if recalling something, his gaze fixing on Gretchen. “Your husband works at the Howard Group, doesn’t he? I hear he’s about to be promoted to department manager. Such a bright, promising man.”

The mention of her husband made Gretchen’s expression collapse into sheer panic.

Before she could utter a word, Lyle continued, “I also heard there’s an opening in Fiscasa. Your husband should take that spot.”

Fiscasa was a bleak, desolate area no one wanted to go.

Tears poured down Gretchen’s face in uncontrollable streams. Deep down, she knew that they meant it.

At that moment, regret twisted her heart like a blade. If only she had known this nightmare awaited her, she would never have followed Kylee’s lead and plotted against Belinda. What baffled her the most was why Lyle and Mitchell would dig this up after so many years.

And by the way they spoke, it was obvious—they were firmly on Belinda’s side.
