Chapter 1908
Chapter1908
Elwood couldn’t be that kind of man.
She didn’t know why, but even without knowing him well, something deep inside her refused to accept that he was such a heartless jerk.
Pressing her lips together again for a moment, Belinda finally asked, “Did you go in? Did you see him with Tasha at that time… face to face?”
Carola slowly shook her head. “No… When I heard that, I was crushed. I didn’t have the strength to open that door and face them. I just turned and ran, as fast as my legs would carry me.”
Belinda’s eyes flickered at that. She tilted her head thoughtfully and offered a possibility. “Since you never went in, that means you didn’t actually see with your own eyes that the man holding Tasha was Elwood. If that’s the case, isn’t it possible the man you glimpsed was an imposter? I think that Tasha has feelings for Elwood. What if… she staged the entire thing?”
Carola was stunned for a moment before she shook her head faintly. “That silhouette—it was his. And his voice, there was no mistaking it. It was Elwood.”
But Belinda wasn’t convinced. She shook her head firmly, her voice steady. “Even so, that doesn’t prove the man inside was truly Elwood. First of all, a silhouette can be deceiving. Another person might easily have a similar build. And as for the voice—that’s even simpler to explain. There are people with an uncanny gift for mimicry. They can copy anyone’s voice, even the sound of birds or animals. All it takes is listening to a recording over and over until they can mimic the sound perfectly.”
She paused, letting her words sink in before she concluded, “So, unless you yourself pushed that door open and saw Elwood’s face, you can’t be absolutely certain that the man holding Tasha, speaking those words, was Elwood at all.”
Carola’s expression froze, her lips parting slightly as disbelief washed over her. She stared at Belinda, wide-eyed. What Belinda had said had never once crossed her mind.
Seeing her reaction, Belinda instantly understood what she was thinking. Carola, who had grown up sheltered and cherished, would never think of schemes this twisted. And back then, already devastated and heartbroken, how could she have considered the possibility of a setup? Hearing those words on top of everything else would have left her blind to any hint of conspiracy.
Belinda exhaled softly, her voice low as she continued, “Given everything, Tasha seems highly suspicious. Remember the night you were drugged at the hotel? She might have had a hand in that, too. If you want to dig into the truth about the past, the best place to start is with her.”

“Alright. I understand,” Carola said at last, nodding with solemn resolve.
Belinda lifted her shoulders in a light shrug. “It’s just a pity Elwood’s lost his memory. If he remembered the past, you could simply ask him yourself.”
Carola fell silent, lost in her thoughts. For the first time, the unsettling idea crept in—what if the man who had spoken those cruel words back then hadn’t been Elwood at all? Could she have misunderstood him?
But no matter how she turned it over, one thing couldn’t be erased: he had treated her with disdain and had been the one who had broken up with her. That, at least, was undeniable.
Belinda’s voice cut through the silence. “And besides… I believe that even with his memory gone, he still cares about you a lot. Otherwise, why would simply hearing your name trigger such a sharp, splitting pain in his head?”
Belinda glanced toward Carola, pressed her lips together in thought, and then spoke again. “And besides, if Elwood truly cared for that woman, Tasha, then why has he stayed single all these years? Even if he lost his memory and can’t recall either you or Tasha, he could get married if he wished. Yet all this time, he has remained unmarried, and that can only mean one thing. First, he doesn’t want marriage. Second, somewhere deep inside, he doesn’t like Tasha. So, I think the things you heard back then may not have been Elwood’s words at all.”
