Chapter 1874
Kylee’s face instantly stiffened at that. She let out a strained sigh, muttering, “Y-yeah… I am sure I’m my mother’s biological daughter.”
Lyle didn’t reply. He had already gotten the answer he’d been searching for.
And the very sight of Kylee’s face at that moment made him disgusted.
Unwilling to drag out such a hollow conversation any longer, he tossed out a random excuse and left the café.
Now, alone in the room, Kylee sat in silence.
Her eyes were locked on the seat Lyle had just vacated, her face darkened, almost sinister in its gloom.
The Happer family must have discovered something already.
She was sure of it.
Otherwise, why would Lyle say something like that to her? And this time, she could feel it clearly—Lyle’s attitude toward her had shifted.
The truth about her identity was really about to be exposed.
The thought made her insides twist with dread.
How had things spiraled, little by little, into such a disastrous state?
Bitterness welled up in her chest, choking her with a resentment she could hardly contain.
In the blink of an eye, two days slipped past.
Today, a doctor swapped shifts with Belinda, so she had the day off.
By noon, after Belinda and Kenia had finished their meal, the doorbell to the mansion rang.
Moments later, Margie entered to inform them, saying, “Mrs. Lewis, Belinda—it’s Holley at the door.”
At the sound of that name, a flicker crossed Belinda’s eyes.
“Should I let her in?” Margie asked.
Belinda’s lips curved into a faint, indifferent smile.
“Yes. Let her in. I’m curious to hear what she has to say.”
“Understood,” Margie replied briskly before going to open the door.
Before long, she returned with Holley, ushering her into the living room.
Then, Margie quietly excused herself.
Holley offered a polite greeting as her gaze swept over the two on the sofa.
“Mom. Belinda.”
Belinda barely lifted her eyes, her tone casual but edged with steel.
“Why are you here?”
Kenia said nothing. She only looked at Holley, though her heart was caught in a storm of conflicting emotions. Unbidden, Belinda’s earlier words rose in her mind…
Even now, she could not bring herself to fully accept the truth. She didn’t want to believe that the daughter she had raised could turn out this way.
“I heard you’ve agreed to let Sarai return to Owathe?” Holley asked bluntly, not bothering with pretense.
“Yes,” Belinda replied coolly.
