Chapter 1861
“If that’s the truth, then Baker and Holley aren’t just heartless—they’re downright vicious,” Johnson said through clenched teeth.
Vincent turned to Lucas.
“Lucas, get someone to collect Carola’s blood sample for a paternity test. She could very well be Belinda’s real mother.”
Lucas, however, kept his gaze fixed on Belinda, his voice low and rough.
“I already had someone collect Carola’s blood sample this morning.”
At that, Belinda’s eyes lifted to him, her long lashes trembling.
“Lucas, did you already suspect that Carola might be my real mother before?” she asked softly.
“Yes.” Lucas gave a firm nod, then hesitated before adding, “I didn’t tell you because if Carola turned out not to be your mother, I didn’t want to give you false hope. I decided to wait until the paternity results came back before saying anything.”
Belinda’s gaze softened in understanding.
Lucas suddenly asked, “Belinda, during that dinner with Nalani and the others—did you suspect something?”
He had noticed her unusual expression during the meal.
Belinda let out a faint, amused breath. Nothing ever escaped him, did it?
She nodded.
“Yes. I suspected it then—that Carola and the head of the Wright family might be my biological parents.”
Vincent’s brow furrowed.
“The head of the Wright family? Which one exactly? No… surely you don’t mean the head of the powerful Wright family in Soling?”
Lucas’s mouth curved.
“That’s exactly who we are talking about.”
Bethany gasped.

“Oh my God! There’s some buried drama here we don’t know about, right?”
Belinda gave a short laugh.
“It’s an interesting story, but hardly a brief one.”
She then went on to recount everything about Elwood and—
Johnson snorted and said, “Kylee and Baker sure are greedy! Now I can say without a shred of doubt—Belinda, your birth parents are Carola and Elwood. The truth couldn’t be clearer.”
Johnson kept his voice steady as he laid it all out.
“To Carola, the child she carried was, without question, Elwood’s. And Elwood, for his part, believed just as firmly that Carola’s child was his own. But Baker—he knew the real story. To keep the truth about the switched babies buried, or maybe to ensure his own child could edge her way into the Wright family, he deliberately tampered with the paternity test results. That way, the daughter of Holley and him would become the daughter of Carola and Elwood.”
After a pause, he continued, “Her father hails from the Wright family—the reigning head of Soling’s four elite families—and her mother comes from the Happer family, ranked third among the four elite families here. Do I even need to spell out just how lofty that pedigree is?”
A cold, mocking laugh escaped him.
