Chapter 1821

Kylee bit her lip hard.

“But… but what if she—”

“Think about it,” Baker interjected.

“If she actually knew something, do you think she would just toss you one cryptic question and leave it at that? No. She was only lashing out because she was jealous of you. Simple as that.”

A tight silence stretched between them before he added, “Now, listen to me. The last thing you need to do now is lose your composure. If you panic or slip up, you will expose yourself. Do you understand?”

Kylee drew a slow, shaky breath. She believed he was right. There was sense in his logic, and yet, her gut still twisted with unease.

But she forced herself to steady her breathing, pressing a hand to her chest.

After a long pause, her voice turned calm.

“Dad, have you found out which facility the Wright family plans to use for the paternity test this time?”

On the other end of the line, Baker exhaled, his reply grave.

“Yes. They are going with the most reputable and established facility in Soling. I had someone check it out. Sure enough, Tamara’s people have already been seen there. I am working on bribing someone inside, but I do not have the usual connections in Soling. It’s difficult.”

After a pause, he continued, “Give me a little more time. I will find the right person to change the results. No one will suspect a thing.”

Relief flickered through Kylee’s voice.

“Alright, Dad. Our family’s future is in your hands.”

“Do not worry,” Baker said with conviction.

“Whatever it takes, I will make sure it is done.”

The thought of Kylee securing ten percent of the Stellar Nexus Group’s shares sent a thrill of anticipation pulsing through him. Once the call ended, Kylee sat motionless for a moment, staring at her phone screen. Then, without another word, she tossed it onto the passenger seat and drove home.

In a restaurant’s dining room, Carola and Elwood sat across from each other.

Carola’s eyes were cold, her tone sharp.

“Well? What do you want to discuss with me?”

Elwood had asked Carola to meet, which she had initially refused—until he mentioned he wanted to talk about Kylee.

That alone had made her uneasy.

So, she had eventually agreed.

“Carola—” Elwood began.

Carola cut him off with a glare, saying, “Do not call me that. We are not close enough for first names.”

A faint smile tugged at the corner of Elwood’s mouth.

“Not close enough? That is funny. Because if we are not, then tell me—what’s with Kylee?”

The moment Elwood asked his question, Carola’s expression shifted slightly.

She pressed her lips together, steadying herself.
