Chapter 1779

“No. I’m willing to do anything for you,” Lucas replied warmly.

Belinda’s face lit up with a smile. She cradled his face in her hands and planted a kiss on his lips with an exaggerated smack.

“Talking so sweet… let me see if your lips are just as sweet,” she said.

Lucas’s lips curved into a grin. “Then you’d better have a good taste.” He slid his arms around her waist, pulling her into a deep, lingering kiss.

When they finally parted, both were slightly breathless.

On the drive home, Lucas mentioned that Elwood had visited him earlier, advocating for Baker. With a sharp chuckle, he said, “Baker sure knows how to pick his allies—going to Elwood of all people!”

Belinda’s eyes flickered with thought. After a moment, she said, “I bet Carola’s behind it. I can’t think of any other link between Baker and Elwood.”

Lucas raised an eyebrow, glancing at her with a smirk. “So, you also think Elwood and Carola used to be together?”

Belinda shrugged lightly. “It’s pretty obvious.”

“You are right,” Lucas nodded. “But I’ve already talked Elwood out of it. He won’t be getting involved in our issues with Baker anymore.”

Johnson’s words prompted Belinda to shake her head with weary resignation. “We’ve discovered absolutely nothing. There’s no trace of Georgie’s existence before she delivered that child—it’s as though someone deliberately erased her entire history.”

Her voice carried a note of frustration as she continued, “But the more thoroughly it’s concealed, the more it screams that Faye’s origins reek of deception.”

Bethany’s laughter rang out with sharp clarity. “Precisely my point! What rational person would obliterate such traces unless they harbored secrets? It’s evident that something is amiss.”

Belinda’s expression grew grave as she replied with unwavering certainty, “So we can now say with reasonable confidence that Faye and Lucas share no biological connection, and Faye probably knows that.”

Bethany’s brow furrowed. “Given these circumstances, it’s almost certain that Faye was the one who pushed you down that slope before.” As the troubling topic resurfaced, Johnson’s expression turned profoundly solemn.

Belinda pressed her lips into a thin line, her voice heavy with disappointment. “But we possess no concrete evidence. No matter how extensively we theorize, there’s nothing substantial to prove our suspicions.”

Johnson nodded in agreement. “Exactly. After all, Faye maintains her status as Lucas’s niece. Without irrefutable proof, we cannot take action against her.”

Belinda couldn’t suppress the bitter laugh that escaped her. “Lucas appears to flee from Faye’s presence whenever she materializes nearby now.”

Bethany’s mouth curved into a petulant pout. “Considering their complicated family dynamics, Lucas probably finds himself trapped, with avoidance as his only viable strategy.” Follow current nov?ls on f?i?n?d?n?o?v?e?l?.net

Belinda released a deep sigh, her tone saturated with resignation. “It’s an impossible situation. Lucas genuinely cannot conceive of another approach to handle his supposed niece.”
