Chapter 1771

Norma said gently, her tone calm yet insistent, “But Harold, you and I both know—Faye isn’t Georgie’s biological daughter. There’s no blood relation between her and Lucas.”

Harold’s expression hardened. “That’s true,” he replied, his voice clipped, “but Faye doesn’t know that. As far as she’s concerned, Lucas is her uncle.”

Norma let out a quiet sigh, her gaze drifting for a moment. “Have you ever considered the possibility that she might know her real identity?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “Or even if she doesn’t know, she could still have developed feelings for Lucas. It’s not impossible. Feelings are unpredictable and hard to understand, impossible to control. So if her heart has already chosen Lucas, there’s nothing she can do to change that.”

Her eyes met his then, calm yet shadowed by a trace of resignation. “To be honest,” she said, “I noticed that long ago. But I couldn’t bring myself to accept it. I told myself I must be imagining things—reading too much into the way Faye looked at Lucas, how her mood changed when he was near. Men like you often miss something like that.”

Harold sat in heavy silence, the weight of Norma’s words sinking in.

He said nothing, his mind clouded with disbelief. The revelation was too shocking. It clashed with everything he thought he knew, and yet it lingered, refusing to be dismissed.

Fragments of memory stirred. He recalled something Belinda had once said—how she was jealous because of Faye. At the time, he’d brushed it off as insecurity. But now… could there have been more to it?

As if reading his thoughts, Norma spoke again, her tone calm but laced with quiet conviction. “I suspect Belinda sensed it long before anyone else did. A woman knows when another has her eye on the man she loves. That kind of instinct runs deep. It’s no wonder she dislikes Faye. As for Lucas…”

She paused for a moment. “I think he realized it, too. He couldn’t accept it, so he started keeping his distance from Faye. Think about it, Harold. Why else would he ask you if Faye is really Georgie’s biological daughter?”

Harold didn’t answer. He didn’t need to. The deepening furrow in his brow, the grim set of his jaw—they said enough.

A bitter realization slowly settled in his heart. The idea he had tried to deny now began to take hold. His granddaughter harboring feelings for his own son was something he had never imagined, and though they were not blood-related, the thought still struck him like a blow to the chest. It felt wrong.

For a long while, he sat in silence, wrestling with the weight of it all. Then, with a quiet sigh, he turned to Norma, his voice low and uncertain. “Norma… do you think I should speak to Faye about this?”

After a moment of reflection, Norma shook her head. “No. It’s just a theory, and we don’t even know if Faye really has feelings for Lucas or if she’s aware of her real parentage. Bringing this up with her without proof would be unwise. Let’s just keep an eye on Faye for any odd behavior and try to limit her interactions with Lucas for now.”

Harold weighed Norma’s words and found them wise.

With a resigned nod, he agreed, “Alright.”
